I recently found a page, where Google describes how to use their AdSense API for revenue sharing. So those (few) who have been afraid that Google does not like revenue sharing should have nothing to fear anymore.
What is Revenue Sharing?
On revenue sharing websites, users get their share of ad revenue. The amount of revenue usually depends on how much you contribute, and different revenue sharing sites have different methods of fighting spam. Using alternating AdSense publisher ids has become perhaps the most popular method of revenue sharing, and now Google seems to support it too.
It usually works so that a certain percentage of time the AdSense id belongs to a user that contributed to the page in question. Sometimes it’s the starter of a thread in a discussion forum, sometimes the uploader of a photo on a photo sharing site.
Revenue Sharing Websites
The most known is DigitalPoint forums, which seems to have started this trend. Other sites I’ve come across include myLot, another discussion site. It has an emphasis on interests, and is a very Web 2.0 looking site with all the tagging taking place. For an all around social networking site, you could take a look at Flixya. They give you a blog, and a chance to upload photos and video.
My Thoughts on Revenue Sharing
Revenue sharing is a great way to give users incentive to take part. The problem these sites face is all the spam that is written with only AdSense revenue in mind. AdSense account is a fair enough way to establish revenue sharing on a website.
The problem with giving your AdSense id for a website is that you will not know if it is really used, and how much. This AdSense API implementation gives some transparency, since the real percentage is revealed, when Google asks you for a permission to use your AdSense Id on the website in question. Of the websites I mentioned, only Flixya seems to use the AdSense API currently.

I don’t know why the success should be limited to just a few companies. In fact, when I get my hands on some initial capital, I plan to start a revenue sharing website of my own. I think it has enormous potential, as internet users are becoming increasingly aware of the massive revenue some online companies are keeping all for themselves.
I had heard of ‘revenue sharing’ but wasn’t sure how it worked. Seems a bit risky to me.
Most of the websites require no investment at all, so you aren’t risking your money. There’s also no waiting for them to pay you by PayPal - frankly, I trust Google to pay me a lot more than some Flixya Inc.
I’d say it’s the opposite of risky, actually. You aren’t even giving them any more information about your AdSense account than they’d get by looking at your website source.
i’m all for revenue sharing. a portion of something is better than a portion of nothing
