After reading a lot of negative feedback about BlogRush, and being quite convinced never to put it on my blog, I was surprised to find that the “Shocking changes” at BlogRush are the hot topic in the Blogosphere - or were yesterday, at least. The message I linked to is a copy of an email sent to all BlogRush users.

Despite being filled with ALL CAPS words, the message seems interesting enough. If they really can make all the changes they promise, I might start using the widget. The main reasons I had for not using it were:

  • Its look is static: I cannot blend it to site theme. - Somewhat fixed with the new “flavors”.
  • Low click-through-rate. - Allegedly fixed by filtering out cheaters and “low quality sites” - whatever that means.
  • Practically no stats. - This has been somewhat fixed, and more accurate stats are promised.

For now, however, I’m going to use the alternatives. I’ve used the DigitalPoint Co-op Ad Network since I moved to WordPress, and though my impression stats are not yet big enough to show results, I’ve only heard good things about it. It’s free to join, and many users have reported a great increase in backlinks. Now that does not equal traffic, but it follows. I will repost my experiences after I have some data to show.

Another network I more recently joined is TNX.net. The idea behind it is to “sell” links on every page of a website for credits, which can be used either for buying links from other websites, or sold. I’m not using it on this blog, because the rules of the Co-Op network prohibit “similar” programs, which I think TNX.net fits. Again, I don’t have enough data yet, but I do see 18 inbound links reported, which will stay there for two months.

I think these two programs are a better way to gain traffic than BlogRush (at least for now), because they don’t clutter your sidebar nearly as much. You also get links instead of just traffic, so they may also help search engine rankings, and give you traffic that way.

BlogRuh was a good idea, but poorly implemented. The developers should have waited a month or two before releasing it and made sure some of the early things were fixed. IMO, launching without reporting just seemed hurried to me. I’m still running it, but so far, I’m not at all that impressed.

Hi James, thanks for commenting!
I heard about it when it launched, but was not impressed, so I did not install it. Please report, if your experiences with it get better after the changes they made, I might try it after all. But for now, I thing I’ll keep my sidebar a bit clearer…

i think we all need some traffic. i thing as long i don`t have to pay for it
i will give the systems a try. and it`s allways better to use more than one system.

That’s something I definitely agree with you on, Hoto. It’s the same with traffic programs, as it is with monetizing your website - never put all your eggs in one basket. You never know how long these programs will last, and you don’t want to lose all your traffic is one goes down for some reason.

Besides, you can’t find the best without experimenting, which is why I will be giving BlogRush a try - just not with this blog. I’ll give a report on it once I have some stats to show, and have made up my mind on it.

Jack, hi and thanks for visiting my blog.

Weird that I would convince someone to use it, when I’ve not convinced even myself yet, but I really hope it works well for you.

Their operation has annoyed me on several levels. I’ve got a category named “BlogRush Sucks” on my blog that goes into it in detail.
