The much delayed Googe PageRank update is finally here it seems. I got a PageRank of 3/10 for the new domain of this blog (check). It’s ok given that I only moved my blog here less than two months ago. I’m happy that the redirect made PageRank from the old domain follow.
Many of the recent PageRank drops have been reversed, and I wonder what is the reason for that. Could it be that they were only a warning, or do the new scores more accurately deal with the link sellers? Something that needs a bit more research.
Most of my other websites weren’t old enough to get a decent PR score, but I’m not terribly disappointed. Despite seeing updated scores now, the importance of PageRank in determining a website’s worth has not improved very much.
I’m still going to use other metrics, when measuring competitors’ sites or thinking about buying a website. I only wish advertisers would understand to do the same.
What do you think about the effect of the update? How has your PageRank updated?

A lot of blogs were knocked down the PR scale because Google is cracking down on the text links being sold. Because PR is determined by the number of quality websites linking to yours, sites that aren’t too great are being ranked higher because of the number of text links the author bought. The Google team is trying to make their search engine more efficient, the whole quality over quantity thing, so that’s why PR is dropping for a lot of people. (I blogged about this yesterday, too.)
I haven’t been affected by this because my blog is so new, but I watched it happen to several others. Overall, I think it’s a good idea, but there are a lot of people who got the short end of the stick even though they weren’t selling text links. Hopefully the quirks will be worked out soon.
I’m happy with this update since my site stepped from pagerank 3 to pagerank 4!
A strange update anyway… we’ve waited for 6 months and now a lot of sites have lost 1-2 or eve 3 pr points!
