I think the free advertising idea is a great one... If people aren't allowed to do paid links (or may be penalized for doing so), then free it is! :)

Vic, your comment was captured by Akismet... You haven't been spamming around, have you? :)

That's one take on it, but I don't really believe in the give-as-few-as-you-can -philosophy. Search engines expect outbound links, they won't penalize you for them. Unless you have too many. Of course, SEO is an inexact science, and we can't really be sure what's the best method.

Niagara - Sutocu is correct. If we were exchanging blogroll links it would have little value. This wouldn't be considered a "link exchange".

Niagara Guy the most important thing is to get links and give as few as possible. This is not easy but there are a bunch of ways to get links and not have to trade in the process.

Thanks Bryan. :) I'll throw something together later today.

Niagara Guy, the SEO effect really depends on the type of links. Reciprocal sidebar links are generaly thought to have little effect. This however, is different. Also, at least I'm doing it more fore the advertisement value - ie visitors. ;)

I think that if you link to him, and he links to you, then neither links count for rank because it was a trade. I believe rank only counts if they are one way.
