I hate it how some SEO advisers tell you to limit your outbound links, or nofollow them, so you don’t leak PageRank. While there’s is definitely a logic in that and it is quite true that having no outbound links could get you a higher PageRank score, I don’t think that’s the best way to get traffic. Here are five important reasons, why you should share the link love.
- You link to them, they link to you. A blogger that sees an inbound link coming from your site may be more likely to link back later.
- Trackback exposure. Even if the blogger won’t link back to you in a post, most blogs have trackbacks enabled. Readers of the post may visit your related article, too.
- You’ll be listed in Technorati. If you link to John Chow in a post of yours, the post will be visible on the Technorati page for John Chow reactions.
- Back up your facts. By linking to another source discussing the topic of your post, you show your readers that it is factual knowledge. Choose your source wisely, though.
- Build your social network. The blogger you link to may be more inclined to respond to your emails and network with you. I’m sure you know how important social networking is in the Blogosphere.
I’m sure there are many more ways you can benefit from linking out. If you know of other important ones, please discuss them in the comments.

On nearly all of my blogs i allow DOFOLLOW links. I think its just curteous. I agree they hardly damage SERP Rankings having outbound links. And it saves other webmasters money. And in essence it rewards the hardest link builders and not just those who are rich and can afford to buy PR7 links. Totally agree with this article.
