If you’re a reader of Courtney Tuttle’s Internet marketing blog, (which I highly recommend) you’ve probably already heard about BloggingZoom. In case you are not or want to know some more about it, here are some basic things about BZ first.
BloggingZoom
Run jointly by Courtney Tuttle and Victor Franqui (Vic of bu.bulicio.us), BloggingZoom attempts to take the power back to the bloggers. It looks like a Digg clone (being based on the popular Pligg CMS), but has some important differences that should be highlighted.
There are basically two limitations to submitting content to BZ: blogs only and no spam. Other than that, everything goes. The main difference to Digg and other social media is that publishing and promoting your own content is a perfectly acceptable use of BloggingZoom. To quote Court:
Bloggers are not penalized for submitting their own content, in fact they are encouraged to submit all of their content. BZ allows you to add as much of your content as you want to a site that will get incredible amounts of traffic.
Though the part about incredible traffic sounds questionable, it may become true soon enough. Here’s the second difference they claim to Digg: BZ content will rank in the SERPs. If they succeed in their search engine promotion and manage to build up enough organic traffic, the potential of BloggingZoom is huge.
The Review
As the site has just launched, there’s little to be said about actual results. However, I believe that there’s great potential, and am quite sure BloggingZoom can grow a large user base. I definitely support it, and will use it both as a submitter and a Zoomer.
Right now the site looks very much like Digg, or like other Pligg sites out there. That’s something I’d like to see change. A more unique design would do much to convince real difference, and a more professional look would add to the authority.
It’s also very important that they develop BloggingZoom related widgets as soon as possible. The Zoom Button plugin for WordPress is a good start, but others are needed to ensure viral growth. Examples could include sidebar widgets for top posts in different categories, or perhaps one that shows the top zoomed posts from the blog in question.
All in all, they’ve managed to do much in a short time, and haven’t done anything wrong yet. I just hope they’ll do more of it, and continue to excellent long term results.

Thanks for the info- I’ll definitely check it out!
Do you think that there is going to be a BloggingZoom or BZ effect - or do you think that it will never get that big?
That remains to be seen, but it sure has potential. If I should hazard a guess, it’d be that the BZ effect will never be on level with Digg effect. That doesn’t mean they couldn’t send a couple of hundred of visitors though.
If the talk about SEO holds true (as I hope), it could mean that the BZ effect will be less of a sudden spike, and more of a steady stream. I think you’ll agree that it’s much better that way, too. Less server problems and more steady revenue
Definitely worth looking into. This sounds interesting, although there are literally hundreds of social bookmark sites across the net, and no one has heard of most of them. But then BlogRush gained a lot of publicity very quickly. It’s entirely possible this will do the same … especially if they build a few nice WP widgets, like you suggested.
While it is true that there are very many social bookmarking sites out there, very few actually offer something unique. BloggingZoom does, which may mean that it will become popular.

Nice concept but pages with between 300 and 600 links on them kinda turn me off….unless of course they do provide traffic.
