You are probably aware that the most important thing you need to make money online is traffic. Without traffic even a great website will make no profit. But how much is your traffic really worth? What’s the value of a single visitor, or a single page view?
Divide your monthly earnings by the number of page views you had and multiply with one thousand. That’s the effective cost per thousand impressions (eCPM) of your traffic. The higher the number, the more money you can make. By calculating your eCPM you can see how well you have managed to monetize your traffic, and whether you should improve.
In November, my average eCPM was $3.14. Compare that with the figure with John Chow’s October eCPM - $70.98 - and you’ll see we’re in a different category altogether. I don’t think I’m doing that bad, but there’s definitely room to improve.
How to Improve
No matter what your eCPM is, I’m sure you would like to improve it. If your score is very low, that may be even more important than increasing your traffic at the moment. The ways you can influence your eCPM depend on how you monetize your traffic.
If you rely on advertising for income, you can either add more ads or replace them with better ads. Take a look at my recommended money makers, if you need ideas for alternative ads. If your ads of choice are Google AdSense or some other CPC ads, you might want to experiment with different locations. Place them somewhere, where visitors are likely to notice them.
If you use affiliate programs to monetize your website, you should have a look at your landing pages and see if you can improve them. You could also find better affiliate programs, if the ones you are currently using are don’t pay enough. Or you could add some advertising into the mix.
In case you have your own product that you are trying to sell, optimizing your landing pages is probably the most effective way to increase sales. Adding advertisement would only leak your visitors out without buying. You should also use a newsletter, if you are not yet using one.
No matter the method you use, experimentation is key. Try different changes and track the effects of them. After you are convinced you’ve found the best way stick with that, at least until you can think of more ways to improve.

Some webmaster/owners concern about is they’re not really into traffic but on how they get conversion to every users visit.
Well,
While these are the necessary actions to be followed by a website owner Google has recently introduced “Ads Diagnostic tool” to find out the multiple reasons why your ad may not appear in SERP’s -this is a most preferable choice!
[…] The seventh is by knowing one’s market through and through. It is important for traffic to be targeted to those who might have a special interest in the theme or topic of one’s website. This way, a solid customer base is going to be created. Once a potential customer shows an interest in a particular website by paying it a visit, one must not waste time in trying to show him that his effort is worth it. […]
right now, my traffic isn’t worth much. but i am slowly taking steps in the right direction. thanks for giving me some much needed ideas
Nice article. Another important element seems to be credibility and longevity. If a site has been around for a while than it can often command higher advertising rates.
I think the problem my site had was for roughly 8 months it was very poor and had little poor content and o be honest was not the greatest site on the net but i have changed this and hope the effort pays of with some new viewers.
