HubPages is another free publishing platform, very much like Squidoo. You can create any number of free hubs, which are single pages about a given topic. All the different hubs are interlinked through tags and groups, so search engines can usually find your new hub quite quickly.
Like with Squidoo, the advantage is that your hub gets some free link juice from all the other content on the site. That’s why you may push a hub to good search engine rankings much quicker than you could a new mini website. HubPages is newer than Squidoo and so has less link juice, but also less competition.
Making money with a hub requires a large amount of traffic, but unlike with Squidoo lenses, you can take advantage of even a small stream of traffic. The reason is that HubPages pays through AdSense revenue sharing - every click will add to your AdSense balance. This means that you do not have to make any minimum on HubPages, but also that you will need to make your AdSense minimum.
Creating a hub is even easier than creating a lens, but there are also less options. The kinds of modules/capsules you can add to a lens are many more than those you can to a hub. On the other hand, you can monetize even links to other hubs via URL trackers.
As with Squidoo, one of the best ways to use this publishing platform is as a source of relevant backlinks. By creating a quality hub on a topic relating to your website and linking to the site from there, you build your website’s backlinks. By using both Squidoo and HubPages you can diversify your backlinks a bit.

personally i think squidoo is great in generating traffic - i’ve established many lenses which is generating referrals and indirectly money for my other sites
You make some great points - I have had Squidoo lenses for some time and the traffic they generate via SEO is great for my sites. The money that I have generated off the Adsense from Squidoo is minimal but the link juice that Squidoo lenses offer is powerful.
I have just started with HubPages and look forward to even more link juice going to my sites and possible more $$ via Adsense.
Chris
I never heard of this. I will have to check this out. I have a squido lense that I use for link juice. I am starting one right now.. I will have to check back in and show you.
Thanks
I have been playing with Squidoo for about a year and noticed that some pages get up to PR4, but after a big Google slap in the middle of ‘07, something weird happened to a lot of squidoo lenses. Im not too sure if the PR shown is the actual PR for squidoo pages. Oddly enough I have even seen some lensmaster pages with like a PR 5+, and I double checked my google toolbar…Anyone know exactly what is going on with this?
The Google slap back then affected rankings temporarily, but good lenses still rank high for many keywords. They also say that the total Google traffic for Squidoo has continued to increase.
There are always anomalies is Google SERPs, that’s just normal I guess.
I like Squidoo but I have never found that it has a significant effect on any of my keywords. It does make a good back link.
I’ve just started to use Squidoo as a nice way to drive traffic to some of my websites. So far I haven’t seen any benefits, but this is because the lenses are still too young to bring enough “link juice”. I hope it pays off.
Thanks for mentioning Hubpages, maybe this will be the next step for driving even more traffic.
See you,

I am just a beginner so maybe someone can answer? Google has not found any backlinks I made. Are you sure links created on Hubpages go through to your site? What is the no follow rule? How can you be sure when you get a link that it would be followed by Google to your site?
My question motivated me to check the page source. All my links on HupPages have a NOFOLLOW tag. I suspect many people of corruptly recommending these places when they are of no use. I hope someone can disprove me because I need something that works.
I found the answer you need a 75 score and they remove the tag.
Squidoo is by far more beneficial for traffic
I’d suggest using both. They are similar and may ways, yet different. Each carries their own pros & cons.
I appreciated your article here about these two free publishing platforms…I’m curious about your opinion though about all of the no follow tags in these..?
I have accounts on both Hubpage and Squidoo. I think the best way here is to optimize well, without spamming or doing something unethical. These sites are very good tool in helping us grow our site’s traffic.
