Google PageRank, the proprietary algorithm at the core of Google Search ranking, is probably one of the most written about topics of search engine optimization as a whole. There are a lot of myths about it and many would be SEO professionals have a hard time grasping the meaning or importance of PageRank score.
The Basics
PageRank is displayed in the Google Toolbar or another PR viewer as an integer between 0 and 10 inclusive. Depending on the source, the value N/A for not available may also be used for pages lacking the score altogether. This visible value is only updated once in a while and is usually a poor indication of the current ranking potential of a given page or website. It also has little connection to the actual algorithm used by Google to rank pages.
(Why) Should I Care?
If PageRank does not matter for search rankings, why should anyone care about it then? The short answer, of course, is that you shouldn’t. However, depending on how you monetize your website, it gets a bit more complex than that.
Many advertisers or advertising networks pay attention on the PR score of your website. This is especially true for various text link -type networks, but to a lesser degree also to contextual or impression based networks. Also, if you are planning to flip your website, potential buyers almost always look at the score, even if they don’t place much weight on it.
How to Improve
PageRank is based on the links pointing to your site. To improve the score, you need to get more inbound links, preferable from established sites. There are many reasons to link build, so usually improving your PageRank score is just a bonus with little practical value.
You should not make decisions based on PageRank. Neither the score of your site, nor the score of others’. It is important to understand how the algorithm works, because something like it lies at the heart of most modern search engines. Your understanding will help you optimize your sites better, if that is shown as a high PR value, fine, but you should much rather see increased organic traffic.

Nice tips. I would like to use these for increasing my websites page rank in future.
Yeah muzammal they are great tips, I think webmasters should play a more importance in Pagerank!
These are solid PR tips. I personally love PR as I feel like it gives everyone something to work towards.
Web marketing isn’t just about SEO or PageRanking or blogging or whatever new web marketing idea is out there - it’s about constantly evolving to follow the current web marketing trend while at the same time not neglecting the tried-and-tested methods. It’s a synergy of everything that works, and not just one cutting-edge methodology.
Patrick, you said it right! Its about everything, site design, optimization, seo…You can’t just nail one aspect and say that it is the most important. I can’t believe how much people think page rank matters. Look how much it changes!
I have always focused more on my rankings for search terms than for my PR. As long as my site can be found by those that will purchase from it I make money. So that is what drives me, not the number on the PR.
But an interesting thought has crossed my mind many times. If lots of people slowly build up their pagerank closer to the magical 10, won’t there be a need for a higher cap to keep tabs with? Or, is that way Google gives smack downs on occasion? To keep too many from coming too close to that point.
I don’t really get focused on my PR but I do think it’s important. A high PR indicates a high amount of trust placed by Google on you.
Some handy links to check your PR, if you dont want to install the Google toolbar:

Will be using this info in a minute, cheers for the heads up!
I think its funny how so many people find PR super important. I mean, it does have a little weight, but should in no way be your main focus.
I don’t focus so much on PR, more on building content for my web site and expand to as much categories as possible. But i know PR meant a great deal for some web site owners who sell PRs.
I will try to follow your tips for increase my sites pagerank. Thanks for sahring.
Great Post! I think a lot of people get caught up in the “it doesn’t matter for SEO” debate, but don’t realize that there are other areas where it DOES make a difference.
Nice work….
To my opinion PR is very important for a website as this describes your page rank in google. And it is regarded as the importance by google in the google network. if you have a good PR then certainly your website have a valuable importance in te world of internet. Cheers to all those websites with good PR!!
nyce debate on pr and seo..i fink that as most of yo have said..pr is vital in hlping us to knw the ranking of one’s page…great job….
I don’t understand how people get SEO and PR mixed up, as they’re completely separate, but I believe they are both important when building a website for monetizing purposes. This is a great article - Thank you for your explanation.
The way I see it, PageRank is just another side of the dice. One minute, everyone thinks SEO is the Holy Grail to web marketing, the next minute, it’s Google’s PageRanking. The marketing rules in the real world still apply to the marketing rules online. You have to cater to a niche, you have to have the heart for whatever it is you’re doing, etc. In the end, what matters is what you do with the hand that was dealt to you. Don’t put all your hopes into one method and hope for the best.
PageRank is important to some people because they know that in order to get page rank you have some type of internet presence. That coupled with high rankings can show a stronger site (i.e. a PR 5 blog about some topic versus a PR 1 blog about the same topic will likely make much more ad revenue and likely ranks higher naturally for industry keywords but not always depending on the content).
was this required??
I mean PR is necessary if you planning to sell your site. It increases its credibility….nothing else…
literally no other importance of PR left and I just don’t bug Google to give me better PR or whatever…its useless
One thing that I’ve always found interesting is the mystique surrounding pagerank. At the basic level, it is pretty obvious how it works, and it’s original algorithm is in the public domain.
And yet, webmasters, even veteran webmasters, continue to pull a blank when asked how their site has gone up or down in PR.
I suppose this ignorance serves the ones ‘in the know’ to their advantage. I guess I shouldn’t fuss over it then.
BTW- great post.
Although PR lost a lot of it’s importance having high or moderately high PR ca still serve as huge bonus in many occasions. It still is indication that website/blog has been around for a while and that it has some quality backlinks. Naturally focusing only on raising PR above all else is futile but I don’t think it should be simply dismissed all together. Btw some changes of PR are not that easy to predict or explain… basic idea of how PR works is maybe simple enough but there is quite bit more to it. Also algorithm does change sometimes unexpectedly so it can actually be hard to explain all that happens especially with manual PR slaps.
PR can come in handy when you’re trading Blogroll links and selling ad space IMO. My focus has been to primarily build quality backlinks with the hope that PR will increase as Google updates. Don’t disregard PR entirely but instead devote a majority of your time to backlinks.
Cheers!
Great tips! will use this to help up my page ranks!
Nice tips for tackling those big G PR phenomenon. I haven’t gone too far to think PR is important, but this will help me and others as well.
Thanks.
Chris
Thanks for sharing the info. I can use it to improve my site.
today the PR is not so important as before,
but it always nice to know you have a hige PR (-:
Good introduction to Google’s pagerank. I will try some of your tips to improve my site’s statistics.
Im not that bothered about the page rank I just want my sites traffic levels to go through the roof, and i think its the same for most people I have seen many sites where they ave high PR but low traffic tankings
While I agree that PageRank should not be a goal in itself, but it does show the result of how popular your website is to Google, and it will cause your search results to go up.
For example, sites with high pagerank will be higher in the search results for the sites keywords than similar sites with low pagerank.
We found that internal link and anchortext optimization, after keyword research of course, will make a dramatic improvement (as soon as google refreshes their database).
Several comments mentioned good content, and that is right…in combination with your internal link optimization, the unique and niche content of your different pages (the more the better) will get good search results even though their pagerank may be less than your homepage.
After that comes the difficult task of finding internet directories and services related to you that will give you links. If you can make short videos about your product, you can now have dozens of your own sites and videos on (youtube, etc) pointing to your homepage.
Now I know why PR are so important. Thanks so much for the details.Good to know that you have a good PR.Keep it up my friend
Achieving high PR rankings for your website is a good thing. The higher your page rank the better. Promoting your website is a big help to get higher page rank. Thanks for sharing, very useful information.
I don’t sell links on my site, but one advertiser who contacted me told me that he looks for sites with PR of greater than 1. But beyond that, PR didn’t matter. In other words, he saw no difference between a PR of 2 and say a PR of 5. Silly to me, but that was his view.
Yep. Your perception of this PR thingy is accurate and right in optimizing our site. You are more right at exposing the idea of increased organic traffic. I believe this is by far more important than PR. I believe your monetization should be attributed to the contribution you make to the world. The greater your contribution the more reward you can get not only in term of money but the feeling of self-revered.
I totally agree that the inbound links from the well-established websites and blogs can increase your pagerank certainly indeed! Also the list mentioned by you for inbound links is comprehensive and sufficient. Thanks a lot.
There is not question that inbound links very important
How do we know that the PageRank algorithm is different from the algorithm used to rank sites for the search engine? Do you just mean it’s a very small factor in determining the actual results?
I think people should care about PR, because one of the trends, that you will notice, for alot of the competitive keywords, the top 10 google search results, will rarely show websites that have a PR of 0. And usualy the top website has the highest PR. This is not always the case…. but its a pattern you will see alot.
As you said PR of NA and PR 0 both are present but in my google toolbar I hv never seen a site with PR N/A. However when I check a couple of site manually through PR checker they show N/A. So what basically is the difference between a PR 0 and PR N/A?
Also please clarify about different PR value frm different servers of google. I am sure u would hv noticed when some PR checker queries the PR of a site from approx 20 google server.
Even I would like to know about the PR N/A and 0 that is something I need to understand. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Having a high PR to me shows that I’ve put in effort and have done my due diligence to have a good amount of quality backlinks and have promoted my site effectively. I don’t think it should be overlooked. Great site btw!
This is really good information for increasing page rank thanks for sharing this information.
Great primer on PR and what it is all about. I appreciate the no nonsense approach. Refreshing in a world full of blogs claiming to have re-invented the wheel. Thanks.
Great post. Explains a lot about how to improve your page rank. How long does it take before page rank will show up on a new site? Less than 1 month old.
it is very tuff to get google page rank
Great! Just what I’ve been looking for.
Page rank is becoming less and less important these days, I agree. A site can rank high in the SERPs, yet have little or no page rank. However, I still believe PR can show how they look at a website and whither they consider is an “authority”. For this reason and the other stated, I thinks it’s important to get links from high PR sites.
I think PR should not be underestimated when it comes with placement in top results, along with page content and structure.
At top everybody has good on page optimization so PR comes in to a bigger role.
I believe that page rank is important. But, it’s funny how google is so dominate on the web as far as everything goes. I remember when google was not even heard of. But any ways i am having problems with my google tool bar on firefox 3.0 but i do have the beta version ill download the new release and see if that works.
It’s such a catch 22 with Google. You get positioned by the amount of visitors to your site, how long they stay on your page, etc…, but if your site is new, you get thrown to the bottom of the listings. How the hell do you start getting organic traffic when you’re on page 20!!!!
Mike
I honestly think that having relevant backlnks is of more importance than just PR alone. It’s one of the most boring tasks but in order to make it online with such fierce competition, we have to be committed and persistent with our activities.
Thanks for the tips! I am currently trying to build the PR on my site, and these are a great help to me!
Yeah, page rank just made my life more complex. It’s funny I still haven’t dreamt about it though. However, when I wake up, all I think about is page rank.
I am just waiting for the next page rank update, can’t wait to see what my new blog will be getting!
I wonder what will happen when PR will become obsolete to some new “PR”.
Revolution!
Thank you. My brother has a famous blog in Brazil! I´ll tell him about your blog. Very good!
Thank you for the great introduction to Google Pagerank.
Yes. You can have loads of links, but if you have low PR, you can find it hard to compete in many industries.
Nice tips for every beginner. Anyhow there is much more to do to get high PR. Most important is to write quality content, and you will get noticed from se, visitors, and other sites also. That would be very enough for start.
Thanks for this great article. It will help me market my website better.
Pagerank is important only if you want to sell links or do paid reviews. I noticed that even with my PR going down my page was at the same place in ranking.
Nice post.
Pagerank can be important for a number of reasons. You’re placed higher in google searches, your site is more attractive for advertisers and posters/contributors, etc. Even if you’re not looking to sell links or ads, it can only help you. Plus, some people might take pride in their page rank and in improving it.
Nice tips. I’m new to the pagerank game, only got started under a week ago and have been reading lots of blogs and articles. I liked yours, it was a nice easy read. Looking forward to more.
A few months ago, I was very much concerned on that and have worked extensively on PR, now, That is nothing else than a green bar for me. Many of my sites even giving me good earning as compared to sites which have high green bar. I think we should let it go in a natural way.
Oh my Goodness, One of my sites jumper from PR N/A to PR5. I am shocked more than happy. I am not going to believe that because site hasn’t even a single backlink. Does PR is reliable anymore? I don’t think so.
Although you are happy but you should investigate it as well. It is almost impossible that in One PR Update a site can jump this much. Do you know forged or fake PR? If not then you should learn about it. I am going to give you a tip, In Google search box, type info:yourwebsite with and without www, I am sure that you will be redirected to some other site(other than your own site) with that PR.
page rank is important if there are numbers of search result come out on search engine.
i am working on nice keyword so that i do not think much about it, but looks like peoples start to write the same topic like mine.
that’s why i need to get a better G PR.
thx for the tip
Nice post, I too care about my sites PR for my advertisers and nothing more !!
Wow, that’s some really useful information. My page ranking is still 0, so obviously I have to work hard to improve it. Thanks!
Good Post! Thanks for your tips. Let me use it to improve my website status in Google’s perspective.
Hello, this is great post, thanks for it! And this time google don`t give me PR for my blog its still 0
!
PR is only an indication of incoming links and content. Anybody can get PR with a bit of elbow grease and work.
Pagerank is such a ballyhooed thing, I’ve seen tons of bloggers keep on raking in money with little or no PR at all. John Chow is now PR3 because of all his paid reviews and links…
These are very nice tips. I will try to follow your tips for increase my sites pagerank. but how does important google’s pagerank? i think the site’s quality not only calculate pagerank.
We see so many search engine experts saying that Page rank is not useful anymore. However Page Rank does have its advantages. Although t it is not a direct measure of a websites rank on search engines or its overall online visibility, it does improve as SEO strategy is implemented on a website. As a websites position and ranking on Google increases page rank will also increase in most cases. If you are expecting to generate revenue by offering banner adverts on your site then advertisers will probably look at page rank before making their decision to advertise. Similarly if you exchanging links other websites will most certainly look at page rank before reciprocating.
This is exactly what I need. Thanks for the tips. I hope it will improve my page rank in future.
So true, now days without a page rank your site is nothing. I guess it’s a numbers game really, the more backlinks the higher your page rank.
Thanks, this a great article.
So the more backlinks the higher the PR. Sounds simple but i’m guessing it isn’t.
Nice tips.Web marketing isn’t just about SEO or PageRanking or blogging or whatever new web marketing idea is out there…..Pagerank is such a ballyhooed thing, I’ve seen tons of bloggers keep on raking in money with little or no PR at all. While I agree that PageRank should not be a goal in itself, but it does show the result of how popular your website is to Google, and it will cause your search results to go up.PR can come in handy when you’re trading Blogroll links and selling ad space IMO.I would like to use these for increasing my websites page rank in future.
Great information
Very helpful information about pagerank. I have struggled to understand how google works this out. Excellent and clear article. Thanks.
I agree to a certain degree. I do have a domain that had a PR1 at that time, was number one on google for a very competitive keyword phrase and was outranking websites with PR3 and PR4. So I think you should be more concerned about getting more quality inbound links and the PR will follow you:)
Great Post! I think a lot of people get caught up in the “it doesn’t matter for SEO” debate, but don’t realize that there are other areas where it DOES make a difference.
Nice work….
great tips. great post.very informative
Good post. I’m working hard to increase my PR with Google so every bit of info helps.
thanks nice post, PR is important but not better than content. Because web pages for human, sorry my english, , hope understand me.
Thanks for the great information about Google pagerank.
I think with our obsession to get the most PageRank and Search engine placement, we have just forgot the basics. Just write good content with the right keywords and let the world take care of itself. At least it has worked for me, I have made little to almost no linking and I have PR3. Dont ask me how, I just wrote quality content
Gustav
WOW.. What a great post. That’s what i am looking for. I like the trick and will use it for my websites. Thanks for a great help
Nice tips. Its a great resource for us, I learn from you constantly. Thanks for sharing the info.
thanks for the information and tips. thanks for sharing!
Your post is informing.Actually I am always trying to rise the pagerank of my site, and it’s necessory.
Nice tips, I don’t care of my PR if I have good ranking in SERP, but it will be better to have both, So might I try this one.. Thanks..
You get a hot tips here. Good job buddy~
Nice tip i will implement that in my websites and blogs…lets see if i make more money with it.
Regards
Soares
If you’re selling something on your site it’s very important for PR to be higher, because plenty of people ,when they search on Google, look only in first ten sites eventually next ten…
Unless you are selling advertisement spaces on your site, if not i do not see a reason to constantly worry about the pagerank.
You are absolutely right. PR is absolutely useless as far as search engines and traffic goes. There is no reason to spend time building it, it should all just come naturally. Do things to increase traffic and PR will increase on its own.
These things change every now and then. One day it works, one day it isn’t that efficient as it was.
Page ranks can be improved.
What people need today is ‘Complete packages for earning money online’. Niche content + Tools + resources + all the advice… It’s worth checking http://buyprivatelabelcontent.com - They have tried to use some new concepts that haven’t been seen previously on private label content websites
very nice comments keep it up
Great post. Great advice to apply to site. Good job!
I try and not worry about my PR too much and worry more about my content. It has served me well as I have many loyal readers and clients.
I was lost PR at the last update..:(
Yes I m Agreed With The Surviliance camera Content Is The King
Pr Will take Some to time But If You have Some good Content You Can Access to Your PR Soon
Is Google going to change how they are ranking these soon? That might pose some problems..
If you look after the content of your site and make sure its original and informative, its a good start for getting natural links and building PR.
Indeed some people seem to pay too much attention to pagerank these days. Whilst it does have its place, understanding the difference between it and Keyword Authority is something most people lack.
It’s not enough to wait for backlinks to build up naturally because your competition will not wait for that.
I have seen sights with decent PR that did not really rank for anything since they were not using the right keywords. So PR was really nothing since they did not rank for people to find them.
Thanks for the post I have PR5 blog and want to keep it..
now a days google is working on two ways one thing is increasing the pr and another is penalizing the sites or adjusting the pr
Thanks for tips u provided
Google’s algorithm changes every now and then. What is a known, established parameter today may not be applicable tomorrow. I also notice that many pages that rank high in SERPs today no longer rank high in the next month. It is too precarious to rely traffic source everything from organic search. Go for offline advertising.
thanks for your tips..
I mostly concentrate on CONTENTS of my site to improve PR
I focus way more on where I rank for the key word phrases I want traffic from, that is what matters to me.
My PR only stands at 1 right now but it would be great to get a 3 so thanks very much for the tips. I will definitely start trying to get a few things done right and get things moving.
I hate the fluctuating PR. One of my sites are PR 4 and then it dropped to 2, that was really annoying.
Even though we are told that pagerank doesn’t mean much, it’s hard to ignore. Though a good pagerank may simply provide you with bragging rights and nothing more, it’s something that you have to be proud of. I’ll never forget the day my finance site went from a PR2 to a PR4 - I was on cloud nine!
Steven
Thanks for the informative read!
Great info, thanks!
How can I found out the Page Rank of different sites?
For example, this Weight Loss website?
Thanks for sharing, interesting to read
Nick
Thankyou. I did not know much of this stuff before you mentioned it.
Page Rank does have some value for sure although it may be overrated. It has value in link exchange as well. If you are high PR site you have often have more wight in negotiating links. High PR blogs and forums in the same way do tend to generate more traffic and participation in many cases.
Just wondering, will you be posting anything similiar to this in the future? I would like to read a little bit more on this. Thanks for sharing the post though!
nice post, i think traffic is important
I am happy that I got a PR3 within the first 2 months since I started blogging. I do not see any special advantages in SERP’s other than I got accepted to few ad networks quickly. This is a very informative article about Google PR values. Thank you.
I’ve seen my pagerank go up and down without any change to my search engine ranking. And I’ve seen my search engine ranking change dramatically while my search engine ranking stays the same. Like you said pagerank is worthless.
I didn’t know pagerank can fluctuate and go up and down??
I didn’t know pagerank can fluctuate and go up and down??
I’ve seen my pagerank go up and down without any change to my search engine ranking. And I’ve seen my search engine ranking change dramatically while my search engine ranking stays the same. Like you said pagerank is worthless.
Yeah, I just remembered getting my PR increased, it took me very long since I had my blog’s PR increased
I always want to achieve high PR for my blogs but that thing seems to be quite difficult.
Great article. Making a high PR this days is not so easy… You have to work a bit.
Great article. Very interesting information. keep up the good job !
Thanks a ton for all those nice tips. Now I think I can use these tips for increasing my websites page rank in future. Thanks for the post and for the information about Google pagerank.
I don’t really get focused on my PR but I do think it’s important. A high PR indicates a high amount of trust placed by Google on you.
I love how simply you put things. PR explanations tend to be so elaborate; it nice to see some that says, “This what it is, how it is and why it is.” Thanks!
so excited for the next pagerank update!
I am also looking forward for the next update of PR. Lets see which website of mine will get the higher page rank.
PR is important to me, because it allows me to be able to know how important Google views my website. I took one of my websites down for a week’s time, and the PR went from 3 to being Unranked.
Thanks for the info !
So how often does google update PR?
I like this post because it helps me not worry too much about PR like I usually do…
Not sure about how quality the links must be considering my cancer blog went to pr 1 with just crappy directory submissions.. Hmm.
This is good tips, but I join pay per post for my blog, the consequence is if write a lot about paid content or ppp so that can decreased my PR, Pls can U give me suggestion about this. Tx
Thank for your info bout PR, this can be usefull for my weblog, Can U share lot more ?
PR has always been important to me. Even if it does not help me in the SERPs , I want a quality website and PR is verification of that… in most cases
I think its funny how so many people find PR super important. I mean, it does have a little weight, but should in no way be your main focus.
Great points…I really need to get on some of this stuff. I know it will help my site out tremendously.
http://www.blogyourjourney.com
Thsi si some great advice for people thta ave their own business.
I Had my site from a PR 3 drop to a PR0.
I had just gotten the PR3 three days ago and then dropped to 0.
Sniff sniff.
A PR prediction tool says I will get 3.8 pr next time though. I hope so.
Nice. ..
Good Introduction to Google PR.. I checked mine.. and its at.. . N/A?!?!?
I gotta improve my blog!
Ranking is quite important to an organisation. Thanks for the suggestions and advice ! Hope to see your new updates soon.
I just try to create a unique website (added value) to the net and do every part of marketing possible. PR falls into place.
Really nice tips thanks a lot! I have my wedding blog which didn’t get any PR I don’t know why. I will focus on getting more backlinks, nice blog btw.
Will be using this info in a minute, cheers for the heads up!
Uhm, this is pretty much wrong. Links do not create PR, only pages create PR. Every outbound link from your site passes PR, and with every link you got to your site, it’s just passing PR from their page.
A link is a link, and PR passes through them. Pages create PR, not links. You do get more PR by pointing more links to your site though.
D
Google has been playing down PR for a number of years now. I wonder why is that and is it really the case that PR is not as powerful and all-encompassing as it once was.
Seems to me that in the next PR I will get the benefits from these TIPS. But Now I would like to add more unique and fresh contain to my websites and blogs.
Great primer on PR and what it is all about. I appreciate the no nonsense approach. Refreshing in a world full of blogs claiming to have re-invented the wheel. Thanks.
So many people say “Oooooooh, ignore PageRank!”. I’m one of ‘em. But the truth is, we still look at that little bar all the time.
I think your perspective is right on: PageRank is not a great indicator of SEO success. It is still used as a measure of potential value when it comes to linking, though, so we’re stuck with it.
Pagerank may not be a direct force for the final traffic your site produces. But I guess it is pride, reflects your hard work, gives you the edge and the necessary reputation in building reciprocal links and also gives the site a rough market value.
Whatever one may say, once you are aware about pagerank it is a temptation to see what the pagerank of the given website is.No matter what.
If you are ignoring page rank than just ask those people who is in the business of selling links or flipping websites. They will tell you the importance of Page Rank.
Whenever any one want to buy a websites than they consider the Page Rank, Traffic and content of the websites.
So Page Rank is quite important.
As Goacom states that this one reflects your hard work and pride as well.
its a good idea to know that our blog have a good PR because maybe there are many of us that use PR for making money with.and i am agree to make a good inbound links.thank you
Thanks for the great explanation on PR. I’ve always treated it as a “nice to have” that will happen on its own when I do site maintenance and SEO like I normally would.
Most so-called SEO experts say that pagerank has nothing to do with ranking position. I think thats absolute rubbish. Only one way I can prove that. Give me a pagerank 10 website and I will literally outrank you for any search term I target.
Thanks for sharing this info….always knew pagerank had some importance but this is the only page I found something constructive
how many links do you need to start building up your pagerank, ie: go from 0 to 1
Yeah now Page Rank is also an important factor if you are into the business of websites. Google also rectified its some basic factors so that they will take care of special points while alloting page rank.
PR is nice to attain but should grow as a natural part of the websites development process.
Page rank is awesome, since we can use it as a tool to measure a site’s authority
thx for some info about PR, what about dofollow function in blogs? does it help to make your site pr higher?
thanks for the info!
just to add that it is much better to have 3 links from a 5PR pages than having 10 from a 1PR pages.
Good stuff! But the best tools I’ve encountered are those developed by Mike Marshall (SEO Recon, SEO Sniper, and the newest, soon to be released, SEO Scout) which are endorsed by the Search Engine Academy founded by John Alexander and Robin Nobles.
Never underestimate the power of Google PageRank. May not be as important as it used to be but it can still make a huge difference.
Great article - I agree, one of the main uses of PR is as a public relations tool - many companies look at a web site with a decent PR and equate that with the size and substance of your business. In short a good PR is good for PR.
Page rank is great to have something to shoot for, helps you gauge where you stand in terms of you linkbuilding and seo efforts.
That’s crazy!
Very good!
It’s kill my boring…
Good post. Even though it’s not an exact representation of performance on Google’s search algorithms, it gives you another tool to measure your page’s search engine performance. It takes into account some of the things that Google’s algorithms look at.
Great tips about page rank. Currently my site has 1 pr, it will affect get pr 3 or more.
I hope all of this SEO stays around for a while. It would really not be fun if one day google said “ok, lets start over!” and recreates everything. I doubt that would happen because they have such a good system going for them, but you never know..
Good post overall. PR is something that I take with a grain of salt. You can have a 0 PR site and rank higher for keywords than a 5 PR site can because of anchored backlinks. But, overall PR does a good job measuring how big or popular that site is.
Yeah it’s weird how some ppl are obsessed with PR rankings. It’s got no real value, jut imagined one…
Thanks for the post. This is the first place I have found anything negative towards Page Rank’s importance to a site.
I don’t focus so much on PR, more on building direct traffic from social media etc
The SEOQuake and SEO for Firefox add-ons for Firefox are also tools in addition to the Google Toolbar that will tell you the page rank of a website. SEO for Firefox also highlights nofollow links in red, which can potentially save you lots of time getting links that Google will just ignore!
PageRank seems very important to a business or company. Thanks for the tips ! I will definitely check it out soon.
Thanks for the info, I’m really trying to get my PageRank higher, I got my domain about a week ago (used to use my old domain) and it does not have page rank assigned yet so I’m building lots of links
I believe that page rank is important. But, it’s funny how google is so dominate on the web as far as everything goes.
great plugins thank You for sharing
Pagerank is great as a first look guide to the value of a website.
Athough a much more in-depth analysis will reveal more about a site.
Seems like every blog remotely related to making money online eventually covers this topic. It’s incredibly important. Thanks for this concise run-down!
To gain a Google rank is not a easy task now, It takes much time, I think google is changing.
I can see why a potential buyer would want to know the score. If a site has a ton of backlinks on one forum from a signature or something they could just say “The site has 10,000 backlinks.” Because of the source of the backlinks the site probably would have a PR of 1 or lower. However, if the links are sprawled out among 10,000 different sites the PR would be much higher. This is good because if I were to buy a site that had 10,000 forum sig link backlinks the owner could just change his signature and the site instantly becomes worth nothing. With backlinks sprawled everywhere it would take months to dismantle them and who really would anyway?
I think google page rank is overrated these days. It is not as important as it used to be.
I think PR should not be underestimated when it comes with placement in top results, along with page content and structure.
At top everybody has good on page optimization so PR comes in to a bigger role.
PR is important to some extent for many people as it indicates the ratio of occurrence on being there in google.
Obtaining backlinks is most certainly one of the most important parts of building a website.
But one must not forget content and architecture as well as building one way backlinks.
We generally tell all our customers to think of commenting on other relevent blogs
as a way of showing another blog’s audience how much they know/ how interesting they are.
So this new audience will click on the link back to their blog.
This is another method of driving traffic to your site and entices people to write really well thought out comments,
instead of junk to get ranked higher on search engines…
Really this is Good post. Great tips also about PR. Pagerank is so much important. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Nice site about Google PR. Most people base their hardworks in PR results. I am also excited about this so that I will know if my 1 month doings have its prize…
Are you going to agree with others that is saying “SERP is more important that PR”?. For me both are important but if you are doing paid post and link selling then PR always matters.
PR measures link popularity only (quantity and not quality), and has no DIRECT influence on SERPS.
Great post!.. very interesting reading thanks. I shall bookmark this site!!
I had a PR 3 in my blog home page. I have enabled do follow in my blog after the last pr update. But it did not got affected due to recent PR changes. And almost all my inner pages have a pr1+. Thanks for the nice writing
The good thing of Google is it keeps on revising the concepts, and because of that sometimes we get new ideas to keep on updated for the page rank.
More links… Always a good thing. Sums things up nicely
I agree with you 100% Links links links are so important. Unfortunately links to the homepage only won’t do, everyone must link to their deeper pages too.
Thanks for the great info. I was wondering what the page rank meant and how I could help my websites page rank improve. This will help me out a lot.
Thanks for the info m8!
Thanks for great post, that will surely going to help for newbies like me. Keep posting great stuff.
this is such a nice post. thanks. you are right, page rank is also important. this can call the attention of your viewers especially those who are in the business. (www.kika.ca)
It’s kinda like your pulse on the net. However, many people still equate your page rank with some sort of “guru” status. Interesting.
Congrats! It’s inspiring to see all of your hard work
Nice article, thanks.
Please keep on blogging.
I am looking forward to read your next great article.
Best regards.
Great article. I agree that you should never base your decisions on PageRank. It’s important to have quality traffic and the PR will follow naturally.
need more tips regarding how to increase the inbound links to my website.
its easy for you to say!
Great post, great information!
Best regards…
Excellent information. What we need to remember is that we truly need to focus on getting more inbound links to our sites. That’s the quickest way to achieving higher pagerank - and higher rankings in the search engines. Each link - ultimately counts as a “vote” for your site.
Great post, thanks for the info for a new SEO.
Very innovative! thanks for sharing your views…
Great article, thanks for the information.
Excellent article. Good information!
Great breakdown! This is a confusing subject to many, but you have simplified it very well. Although PR is important in its perceived value, the overall quality of a site can not be based on this alone. And as you’ve stated… the real reward comes in increased organic web traffic to your site!
Everybody understands the need for getting backlinks but it doesn’t help that it takes forever to get those quality high pr links
Since many years, I observed that there are many sites on the top who have less PR but they didn’t sustain for a long time. I think we must have good reputation(links) for a better ranking but these are purely my own thoughts.
Hy, thanks for the share,a also, i really agree with you about how to improve, but the alexa ratings counts here, right?
PageRank, one part of the search engine Google, is one of the most prominent link-based rankings of documents in the World Wide Web.
Tom, I think Alexa is good in traffic stats so it always gave me some fair estimation of traffic volume of my competitors
I’m just curious, if I have a web site and it has a page rank of let’s say 4, what benefits will I get from it? Will I earn from it?
Building back links is Pain in ….. You can leave great comments on blog and moderator still don’t want to publish it…So for me forums seem to work OK and free directories.
Thanks
Adi
It is just like a myth now that Google PR doesn’t effect ranking. I think we should care it very well because for me it is an important factor to rank well.
You are wrong Mr.Rod - Adi. There are some good moderators out here. Look at your own comments it is published…lol
Thank you very much for this useful information.
Please keep on blogging.
I am looking forward to read your next great article.
Best regards…
I would agree that increasing PR of your site is not the most important part in optimization and good ranking. There are other factors like a number of back links from other sites, whether they are respected so much by Big G. And so on.
Hm … interesting read.
Backlinks is the key to Googles PageRank. If you haven’t started doing it yet, you definately need to be building links. If you want any authority at all on the internet, people have to be saying you are the go-to website.
Thank you very much for this useful information.
Please keep on blogging.
I am looking forward to read your next great article.
Best regards………………..
I haven’t cared about PageRank since 2005 when I figured out that it really doesn’t mean anything anymore. Its one of those things thats fun to have, but I’d rather have 1,000 quality visitors and a PR of 1 than 10 quality visitors and a PR of 10.
Wow - that was a great article. I was rather worried before reading the article concerning one of my websites. My catering website’s pagerank fell from 3 to 2 and another page rank on construction fell from 3 to 0. I was too alarmed that i hardly know what happened. But of course, the organic traffic seems pretty good in fact. I was just shocked on what happened.
Very innovative! thanks for sharing the tips which will prove to be very helpful in future as well
Nice Blog and thanks for sharing this good info, Page rank is depend on the various things like your backlinks…

Thanks for this article - Lots of people underestimate the power of good pagerank!
Too many people obsess with their PR. It is not the end all of SEO. I have some sites that have a 0 or no rank at all that still get good traffic and good click thrus due to a couple of well placed links.
Thank you very much for this useful information.
